Oxted & District Reserves 1 v 0 Limpsfield Blues Reserves
Good Friday turned into a great Friday for Oxted as the Reserves won the Hospital Cup for the 3rd time in 5 years!
What was always going to be a tense match turned out to be just that.
After a tight first ten minutes Oxted started to take control of the game and although not having many attempts on target started to keep hold of the ball for significant periods of time forcing Limpsfield to chase hard for possession. With the ball being rolled out from the back and Oxted utilising their full backs and wide men they started to create chances one of which was taken. After stringing a couple of passes together the ball ended up with Ben Nicholson and with a delightful through ball split the static Limpsfield defence. Luke Harrison seized on the hesitation in the defence and found himself one on one with the goalkeeper and scored with an exquisite lob. 1 – 0 OXTED!
Oxted continued to dominate possession and the game, but a lapse in concentration from Neil Marsh gave Limpsfield the opportunity to square the match up from the penalty spot. Fortunately the Limpsfield player failed to keep his nerve and cleared the bar with meters to spare.
1 – 0 to Oxted at half time.
Feeling confident at the turn around, things started to fall away in the second half for Oxted when Guy Beck replaced Ben Nicholson, who had to come off with an injury picked up in the first half. After the change Oxted could not keep their stranglehold on the game and Limpsfield began to take control. With Oxted assisting Limpsfield by not managing to string more than 3 passes together Oxted had to perform well defensively. Fortunately that is exactly what was done with Oli Beck and Colin Esders winning the majority of the aerial balls with the midfield clearing up the 2nd balls. On the couple of occasions that the defence was breached Ryan McGee was in fine form and dealt easily with the Limpsfield attempts.
With time running out Oxted bought on Colin Reed and Del Roberts for the final few minutes for fresh legs and to wind the clock down. This was achieved and Oxted regained the cup and deservedly so on the back of the first half performance.
